I currently only have 2 years of experience in competing but I have done quite a few shows of which I have always placed in the top 3. The biggest challenge I faced was to accept that this sport takes time and you cannot rush certain things even if you want to speed up the process.

Sandton, South Africa

Personal trainer and online coach.

Describe your experience working with clients who have different fitness levels and goals.
Every client has different goals and preferences, it is very important to keep in mind that as a coach you need to know your client so well, what makes them tick and what doesn’t make them tick. Some clients have health issues, some have injuries and some clients would like to become competitive athletes/bodybuilders and some just want to stay healthy, I love learning things about each individual client.

What is your training philosophy or approach when working with clients?
I focus on educating clients in ways that can support their goals and exercise adherence. I meet them where they are each day and never push them harder than necessary to help them feel successful. I use inclusive language that supports a positive self-image and the unique identity of the client.

Training Plan:
“Strive for continuous improvement and adaptability” I design programs for my clients to help them achieve their goals long-term, Therefore these programs are designed with different phases to build/cut and help an athlete show continuous improvements whatever their goal might be.

Nutritional Plan:
Different foods contain different nutrients, which means that eating a diversity of foods helps to make sure that clients are getting adequate nutrients. I always make sure that my clients enjoy their meals and I always keep their food preferences in mind as well.

Supplement Plan:
The supplement plan and protocol are very simple and not too complicated. Clients should never rely on just using supplements, Hard work and consistency are the key.

Do you prefer to take and recommend all-natural (no sugar, no artificial colours/flavours/sweeteners) supplements or supplements with artificial flavours and sweeteners? And Why?
I prefer supplements with no sugar or artificial colours.

I only use and would only recommend my clients to drink sugar-free drinks etc while following their meal plans. I would also recommend they use sweeteners instead of sugar with their coffee/tea, or any meals such as oats, portages, etc.

Please describe the importance of mental health
Mental health impacts how we interact with people around us.

The most common mental health conditions include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychotic disorders
  • Personality disorders
  • Panic disorder

It’s important to make sure each of us as individuals is in a good space mentally.

If you could ask Status Fitness Magazine Editor-in-Chief Rodney Jang any industry question, what would that be?
My question to Chief Rodney Jang would be, “What has driven you to become a fitness magazine editor specifically in this industry?”

Status Fitness Magazine runs model searches across North America including the largest one at the Arnold Classic for the Status cover. As part of the Status family, you will receive a special participation invite. How excited are you for this opportunity?
I am very excited about this opportunity! It’s something I am very grateful for and to also be a part of this experience will be something unforgettable.

What are your long-term career goals as a fitness trainer, and how do you plan to continue growing in this field?
My long-term goals are to work with more clients all over the world and also to specialize in life coaching. I am planning to grow in this field by working extremely hard and gaining knowledge on a daily basis.

What does the future hold?
We don’t know what the future holds and therefore we need to make the best of every moment. We all have big dreams and goals in life, and to me investing my time and effort into the things I have passion for will ultimately grow my business, and also create massive success for me as an athlete in the future.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Never depend on anyone or wait to make your dreams become reality. Just make it happen.

What does success look like for you?
Setting goals and achieving them. Success, to me, is going above and beyond or meeting a challenge before a deadline.
