JENNY MURPHY

Jenny Murphy Shares Her Transformation Success Story
Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr
My gypsy heart keeps me forever rooted in Wanderlust. I’ve never met a stranger…. strange people sometimes, but there’s always a connective thread. My grown-up life responsibilities have been primarily supported in different forms of the service industry…. currently manifested as a restaurant owner and massage therapist. I love all animals and insects. I appreciate a minimal lifestyle and look forward to expanding into more sustainable efforts.  I’ve developed expertise in stopping to smell the roses. I Love Life…. the good, the bad, and the ugly… .it is a beautiful tapestry.  I’ve enjoyed extraordinary experiences…. my favorite has involved food and sharing food with others, the wild existence and socialization of animals, and the incredible diversity of nature. (I’m sorry, not sorry if this sounds esoteric. I think “bios” are strange ways to identify ourselves. Lol )

THE STRONG, VIBRANT WOMEN AND MEN OF THIBOD COMMUNITY ARE ARTISTS, BUSINESS PEOPLE, MOMS, DADS, HEALTHCARE WORKERS, WORLD TRAVELERS, PHILANTHROPIC LEADERS, SERVICE PEOPLE…..BUT BEYOND THAT, THEY ARE A FITFAM THAT REALLY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER AND UPLIFTING EACH OTHER.

Occupation details:
Restaurant owner (own “Barefoot BBQ”…. restaurant based out of an Airstream trailer in the quaint beachside community called Seaside, FL on Scenic 30A) and massage therapist specializing in connective tissue, Thai, and Lomi Lomi techniques for over 10 years.

Relationship status:
Happily divorced, and co-own Barefoot BBQ with my ex-husband

Fitness Goals:
Now that I’m at my ideal, healthy weight again, I’d like #1 to maintain for the duration of my long, healthy life healthy weight/fat percentage, and furthermore to lean out/cut a bit more.

Training Plan:
Yoga, weight lifting, balancing macros.

Thoughts on HIIt, Power lifting, TRX, Yoga, bodybuilding, other:
For me, yoga is the best tool for overall fitness. I love that it’s head to toe, long & lean toning and a balance of flexibility…not to mention the mental/emotional/spiritual/lifestyle benefits. Yoga pairs perfectly with weight lifting for the ultimate combination of bone density health, cardiovascular benefits, strength, and flexibility.

Nutritional & Supplements:
High-grade probiotics, niacin, vitamin d, spirulina, vegan digestive enzymes, vitamin b-12 (including nutritional yeast), and CBD oil

How did you use Magnum products during your shoot prep?
I used Ebrake, Afterburner, and Heat throughout the duration of training to boost metabolism, and for quality sleep and muscle repair overnight.

What are your thoughts about Magnum and which products do you use from them?
Magnum is a well-reputed and scientifically backed line of supplements.

FOR ME, YOGA IS THE BEST TOOL FOR OVERALL FITNESS. I LOVE THAT IT’S HEAD TO TOE, LONG & LEAN TONING, AND A BALANCE OF FLEXIBILITY…NOT TO MENTION THE MENTAL/EMOTIONAL/SPIRITUAL/LIFESTYLE BENEFITS.

Special skills?
World traveling ;), writing well, ability to adapt to new circumstances and surroundings easily, resilience

What do your parents mean to you? What did they teach you?
I am blessed with incredibly supportive, unconditionally loving parents! They raised me with the confidence to believe that there is truly nothing I couldn’t do or achieve. The thought never crossed my mind until the seeds of an abusive relationship took a foothold in my late 30s. However, I had the tools and the strength to know my soul from the inside. Because of their love in my formative years, I was able to remove myself from that destructive environment and heal. My parents, also, raised me to not participate in any –isms….racism, sexism, etc….and to live with compassion and an altruistic outlook.

What separates Status from other fitness magazines?
I like the cross-over with emphasis on “real” people’s stories about their journey.

What would it mean to you to become the next Status Fitness Cover model?
It would, of course, be flattering, but, furthermore, it would be re-inspiring for me. I’m just an (extra)ordinary Jane who committed to two significant lifestyle changes, and to see it manifest on the cover of Status Fitness would be vegan icing on the cake! I would hope it would inspire other Joes and Janes to follow their own path to authenticity and to recognize that there are multiple ways to get there.

If you could ask Status Editor-In-Chief, Rodney Jang one question what would that be?
What was the most pivotal moment that led you to your passionate pursuit of health and this venue to inspire others?

What was it like working with Warren from Healthy Vision Photography?
Warren strips any internal preconceived concerns of what the photoshoot is “supposed to be.” Through his laughter and natural projection, he gives you the latitude to shine authentically, playfully, and yet still captures the best aesthetics of the moments.

6 things people would not know about you:
Sign language was my foreign language in college.
I’ve explored all 7 continents and 70+ countries.
If I could have one wish, I’d wish to fully know every language on the planet…including animals and plants.
I intend to someday teach/lead meditation in prisons.
I was given 5 years to live and 27 years later, I’m more than fine!
I live in a 1952 Spartanette.

Who inspires you?
Einstein, comedians such as Robin Williams and George Carlin, anyone who has “failed” countless times and keeps trying, Malala Yousafzai

Who do you wish to inspire?
Anyone who feels “unworthy” or that “they just couldn’t do ‘it”

Transformation story:
I maintained a healthy weight through my early 20s. Slowly, over the next 2 decades, I topped out at about 40# overweight. In 2014/2015, I made a commitment to a Keto-esque program, and lost 35# and 35” in 40 days. I committed to maintaining that with a recent decision to begin to refine with more definition. My goal now is to truly maintain my weight within 3% of ideal body weight and fat percentage with only small fluctuations.

Life goals:
I’ve always said when I grow up, I will to be a philanthropist. I, also, hope to inspire self-love, positivity, sustainability, animal welfare, and compassion in others.

5 lessons you have learned:
Be true to yourself and you will manifest your best self.
Believe you can, because you can!
The only constant is change.
Fear and Love are both powerful driving forces, but Love burns longer and ultimately does win.  I am enough.

Music and artist you listen while training:
I listen to podcasts about nutrition, broad-spectrum wellness, and dietary lifestyle.

Favorite actors/ movies:
Documentaries, Action films. However, my Favorite show ever, Newsroom

Favorite books and authors:
Jitterbug Perfume, Love Poems from God, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Four Agreements

5 most important attributes you see in a person?
Compassion….ability to recognize that we really are all in this together. Resilience….ability to handle stress and redirect with minimal casualties to self or others. Being able to think outside the box. Authenticity/Self Honesty. Humor….being able to always find joy and laughter in life through all circumstances, because at some point, we do have an opportunity to tilt our heads back and laugh at the perfection of it all if we allow ourselves to see it.

Advice you can give to children who want to start training?
Create habits now that will create a healthy body and mind for yourself….and keep it fun! You’ll save a lot of time and trouble for yourself over having to unravel and redirect from bad lifestyle habits.

Favorite Quotes:
“If you ever want to see God laugh, tell Him your plans.”
