WE SET A GOAL TO LOSE 50 POUNDS BY MY 50TH BIRTHDAY … IN LESS THAN 4 MONTHS.  WE ACCOMPLISHED IT!! NEW GOAL – 100 POUNDS IN MY FIRST YEAR … WE ACCOMPLISHED THAT!!

Bio:
53 years old, married 30+ years to my prom date, 3 kids (Son 25, Daughters 22 & 16)

What makes Becky so special as a trainer?
Endless support.  Becky is one of my biggest motivators.  She and her family, Jay and the girls, live this lifestyle to its fullest. Like no others as far as I am concerned.  If there is a 1% club in fitness – they are it.  I may not be a regular member of “The Babe Cave” but I am on the “security” detail.  The dedication, the support, and the example of this lifestyle that she and the other “Babes” exude have been priceless.  Honoured to be an honorary member of the cave.

Fitness Goals:
At first – to get healthy, now – to motivate others to change their story.  After being chosen by Goodlife Fitness for their #changeyourstory campaign in the Fall of 2018 my drive has only gotten more motivated.  Meeting people from across Canada, in-person and online, finding out that my story made them start, or after showing their family my story, to “got their Dad” to start … because if Darcy could do it – why couldn’t he.

Training Plan:
6-7 days a week, lift min. 4 days, cardio & active recovery, stretching – every day.

Nutritional & Supplements:
Magnum Nutraceuticals products,  Liquid Muscle,

Do you have any special go-to recipes?
Not really … love my chicken … cooked any different way

AFTER BEING CHOSEN BY GOODLIFE FITNESS FOR THEIR #CHANGEYOURSTORY CAMPAIGN IN THE FALL OF 2018 MY DRIVE HAS ONLY GOTTEN MORE MOTIVATED.

What do your parents mean to you? What did they teach you?
Everything.  They are my parents, but we are also business partners.  They started the family retail businesses before I was born, over 53 years ago.  Businesses have changed, still retail and they are still involved daily.  My father turned 80 this year and is still an important part of my business.  I could not have started without them … I probably wouldn’t be able to do what I do now without them either.  No stopping them, work constantly, travel, and enjoying each other’s company.  A great example of marriage, and work ethic.  I hope I can do what I do, as well as them, for as long as them.

What separates Status from other fitness magazines?
The motivation, tips and tricks, and support it gives the industry are unmatched.  The “leg-up” that it has given athletes, and the features on different clubs, studios, and even manufacturers are awesome.  A good read … and excellent photography!!

If you could ask Status Editor-In-Chief, Rodney Jang one question what would that be?
What did you do before this and what made you start STATUS?

What was it like working with Warren from Healthy Vision Photography?
OMG … the best. Lots of fun. His ability to make you feel at ease – to turn my nervousness into being very comfortable.  I should have booked a longer session!! Too much fun!!

Things people would not know about you:
Pretty open book.  I work out, work, eat and sleep.  Love to travel.  Play euchre and crib with the family.

Who inspires you?
Anyone that keeps going.  Starting is a hard decision … to keep going is something special – failure happens – restarting is heroic.

Who do you wish to inspire?
Those that haven’t started.  If I can do this – why can’t you?

Transformation story:
Four months short of my 50th birthday, I made the decision to change.  I was having a tough time with sore knees & ankles.  I had not gotten “the scare” from a doctor, but I knew it was time.  I contact the Goodlife Fitness that my family had joined 2 years previous (I had never been), and asked to meet with a trainer.  We met, did the initial measurements, and much to my disappointment, I was 350.4 pounds.  We started training – 3 times a week.  I would still come in the other days – I knew I had to commit fully, to make the change in my lifestyle, to make new habits.  I changed my diet, I joined a group that was based on a portion control diet … I always ate good foods in the past, generally (with some treats of course) – just way too many, too much, too often.
We set a goal to lose 50 pounds by my 50th birthday … in less than 4 months.  We accomplished it!! New goal – 100 pounds in my first year … we accomplished that!! I was hooked. I wanted more. My trainer, Kyle, and I continue to train together to this day.  Even more focus on diet with my coach, Brandan Leadbeater, and supplementation with Magnum Nutraceuticals products have further advanced my training.  I have currently lost over 160 pounds and now the focus is on building a stronger, healthier body – not about the weight loss.

SHE AND HER FAMILY, JAY AND THE GIRLS, LIVE THIS LIFESTYLE TO ITS FULLEST. LIKE NO OTHERS AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED.  IF THERE IS A 1% CLUB IN FITNESS – THEY ARE IT.

Why did you start your transformation and what keeps you going?
I must say it was for longevity.  A couple of friends, who were “healthier” than I, had some serious scares.  I didn’t want that … I had to make the change.  For my family, my friends, especially for me.

How do you keep yourself motivated to stay on track when you start to slip?
Small goals – always changing them.  Seeing the results, getting a heavier lift, seeing a new striation, makes us want more.

Life goals:
To be here, continuing my training, for a long time.

Lessons you have learned:
You are going to slip – everyone does – learn from it, start again, move on.  Works in my health journey, work in life

Favorite books:
Not really a reader but I do enjoy a good biography – mostly motivational, self-help books and business plan orientated books

5 most important attributes you see in a person?
Honour, integrity, loyalty, support, honesty

Advice you can give to people who want to start training?
Just do it… it’s not easy, it’s hard, but making the change in my lifestyle has been one of the most rewarding things I have done … besides marrying my best friend and having three awesome kids.
