Describe your experience with the Leigh Brandt Muscle classic?
The show was absolutely amazing. The FLOW of the show was incredible, it was organized, efficient, the sponsors were generous, the hosts were energetic. I cannot WAIT for the next LBMC event.
How was the show organized and how did it run from promoters, volunteers, advertisers, venue?
Absolutely REMARKABLE. I’ve done 7 fitness competitions all around the world, and so to get the opportunity to be a part of such an organized show was a treat. As an example, I got IN for my TAN, and my ATHLETES CHECK-IN, with a COVID TEST and ALL 3 of those things took 30 minutes total. That shocks me. The last show I did, the TAN took 3 hours by itself.
Describe what it felt like being on stage and getting your name called out for 1st place overall?
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Just last weekend, I competed at the Alberta Open and I placed 3rd. And I WAS NOT SATISFIED with 3rd, so I made some BIG adjustments in the week leading up to LBMC, and to SEE those adjustments lead to a 1st place victory was the BEST feeling in the whole world.
How was your prep leading up to it?
Hard. It was long. I prepped for LBMC last year (March 2020) and COVID cancelled the show 1 week out. So the prep was LONG, because I reverse dieted, then had to prep for another year before I got to step on stage. It was long and challenging.
What challenges did you face?
I got 3rd place at the Alberta Open just a week before. And I had to DECIDE that 3rd place wasn’t good enough, then I had to BELIEVE in myself enough to PUT IN THE WORK that was necessary to get myself to a 1st place calibre physique, then I had to go ALL IN for 5 days to make it happen.
I took 30,000 steps every day Monday – Thursday leading up to LBMC for the 5 days I had between shows.
I did HIIT cardio every day Monday – Thursday, leading up to LBMC.
I cut 10 pounds from Monday to Friday to be SHREDDED ENOUGH to come in and win LBMC.
The night before my show, Friday evening, I ate some bad food and got food poisoning. I woke up at 1 am (morning of the show) with food poisoning, going to the washroom, and struggling to get any sleep.
I had to PUSH THROUGH food poisoning to step on stage, even though my insides were churning, I had to PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE and step on stage. I REFUSED to be denied; I REFUSED to allow ANY adversity to get in my way.
I came to win the LBMC, and I wasn’t going to get de-railed at the finish line with food poisoning, so I PUSHED THROUGH and came out with the victory and it was the sweetest victory ever, because I refused to be denied, and then came out with the W.
By winning the overalls at the Leigh Brandt Muscle Classic, you won a Status Fitness Magazine cover try to shoot. What was that like and what does this opportunity mean to you?
ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. I’ve wanted to be on the cover of a magazine since I was a kid – I think everyone dreams about that. So to get the opportunity to do so – man, with such a prestigious magazine? Incredible.
What separates Status from other fitness magazines?
They’re the ONLY option in North America for fitness magazines. The fitness scene ONLY talks about Status Magazine. Period.
“Thanks to the great promoters Leigh and Dean Brandt, I was lucky enough to sit front row for the show. There were several athletes that stood out to me. Brian Mark was certainly one of them. He came in great shape and took conditioning to another level. This put Mark right in the mix to compete for the overalls. After watching all the class winners stand next to each other it clearly was a competitive field. However seeing Mark pose at a pro level, it became very clear Mark was going to take top prize. That’s exactly what happened. Congratulations Mark”
You had a lot of family and friends in the audience, what does their support mean to you?
THE WORLD. They are the reason I do what I do. I want to show my family and friends what is TRULY POSSIBLE when you set your mind to something and you go all in.
Future fitness goals and plans?
I grew my Instagram to 100k followers. I grew my podcast to a top 50 business podcast on Apple Charts. I grew my coaching program to over 1,200 active paying clients. NOW! I want to grow on YouTube. I also want to document my journey to the IFBB PRO Stage. #LETSGO.
(Subscribe to my YouTube Channel, and you can see ALL of my prep documented, including one of my photoshoots with Status magazine!)
My next big goal is to get to 1,000 podcast episodes (I’m at 525 right now) and to get to 100,000 subscribers on YouTube (I’m just starting out, and I’m EXCITED about the climb).
5 things people don’t know about you:
- I was overweight my entire life until I was a teenager and started lifting.
- I LOVE TRAVELLING the world and I travel at least once or twice a month.
- I was an online fitness coach for 4 years before I became a business coach.
- I own a gym in Kelowna with my partners called Iron Energy Gym.
- My biggest fear in life, until I was 24 years old, was aliens (low key still kinda scared of aliens hahaha)
If you could inspire one person, who would that be? And why?
YOU. My goal is to change one person’s life every single day. And if I can change one person’s life every single day, then I know my life has meaning and purpose.
I truly want to show you that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE when you set your mind to something.
I WON LBMC because I TOLD MYSELF I WANTED TO WIN! Before I even STARTED the prep, I wrote down on 30 different sticky notes and put them ALL OVER in my house:
“1st Place and Overall Champion.”
YOU NEED TO SET YOUR MIND TO THE GOAL and then have a BURNING DESIRE to accomplish it.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
Chase your dreams.
